Alabama State 3, Alabama A&M (25-18, 25-14, 25-17)Box ScoreJACKSON, Miss. - For the fourth-straight year, the Alabama State Lady Hornets will vie for the SWAC Volleyball Tournament title after sweeping rival and No. 4 seed Alabama A&M during the semifinals.
Alabama State took an early lead but the Bulldogs fought back to turn the contest into a 13-11 game at the midpoint.
After a timeout, the Hornets regrouped. The net defense was instrumental in Alabama State's rebuilding of its advantage, but it was a service error that aided the Hornets in taking set one.
With Jamie Coleman on serve to start set two, The Hornets rolled out to a strong start, scoring five of the first six points en route to a 12-4 advantage early on. The Hornets pushed their lead to double-digits down the stretch to take a 2-0 set lead.
The Lady Bulldogs posted more resistance in set three after weathering another early storm. AAMU managed to get within one of the Hornets, but were unable to overtake the top seed down the stretch as a quick four-point flurry helped cement an ultimately insurmountable lead for Alabama State.
ASU now awaits the winner of the Texas Southern vs. Southern semifinal.
