BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Alcorn State University suffered another tough season last year, going 0-13 overall and 0-10 in the Conference. But, with a few leaders returning, the Braves have the chance to capitalize on their efforts.

Viktoriya Mihaylova made a name for herself at ALCN during her first collegiate soccer season. She captured a team-high three points with one goal and one assist. Other Braves that contributed to the team’s scoring resume includes; Shaquita Kelly (one score, two points), Katrina Moore (one score, two points), Philicia Wimley (one score, two points) and Jessica Joe-Cabblah (one score, two points).

Out of those four, only one student-athlete was a senior.

Mihaylova was not the only freshman leader on the team. She was joined by goalie Maegan Ariaz who grabbed 79 saves. Ariaz served as the only goalie on the team, playing a total 13 game (1167:09 minutes).

The Braves did not make it to the 2014 SWAC Soccer Tournament, but they plan on improving their chances this season under new coaching leadership.

ALCN returns to the field September 8, as it travels to Natchitoches, La., to face Northwestern.
