2015 Outdoor Recap: Day Two

NORMAL, Ala. – One day of competition at the 2015 Southwestern Athletic Conference Track and Field championship remains. Louis Crews Stadium in Huntsville, Alabama has been hosting the weekend meet since Friday.

Going into the final day of competition, Alabama State leads the way with a total of 83 points. Prairie View and Southern are tied for second place with follows with a score of 41 with points each.  Texas Southern (36), Grambling State (26), Arkansas Pine Bluff (23), Alabama A&M, (22), Alcorn State (22), Mississippi State (14), and Jackson State (4) rounding out the scoring.

For the second straight year, Alcorn State’s Tatiana David (4624) and Darryl Jones (6279) claimed the Heptathlon and Decathlon respectively.

Other Individual winners crowned on day two included, Southern’s Briana Radford winning the Shot Put with a distance of 14.03m. Sydnee Worlds of Arkansas Pine Bluff earned a first place finish in the Long Jump at 19-11.75 with Lori Davis from Alabama State claiming the Javelin Throw for the second consecutive year at 126-09 feet (39.26m). Teammate Artrailia LaSane capped the night off winning the 3000 Meter Steeplechase in back to back seasons clocking in at 10:54.41.

On the men’s side, for the second straight year, Mississippi Valley State’s Micah Hill won the Shot Put with a distance of 15:16mDemetrius Williams of Texas Southern won the Long Jump at 7.39m. 

Romello Nalepa (MVSU) took home the Steeplechase for the men topping his time of 9:56.79 with a mark of 9:55.71.

Heading into Sunday’s final day of events, Grambling State sits in first place on the men’s side with 64 points followed by Southern in second with 30 points.  Mississippi Valley State is in third place with 25 points with Texas Southern sitting in fourth place with 24 points.  Alcorn State (19), Alabama A&M (19), Jackson State (10), and Prairie View (4) rounding out the scoring.

The final day of the 2015 SWAC Outdoor Championship is slated for a 9:00 a.m. start Sunday morning.
