PVAMU Senior Jeanette Jackson Headlines All-SWAC Team

Birmingham, Ala. - Senior point guard Jeanette Jackson of Prairie View A&M University has been named Southwestern Athletic Conference Player of the Year as announced by the conference on Monday. The league also unveiled the rest of the 2014-15 superlative winners along with the All-SWAC teams for the season.
Jackson led the league and the Lady Panthers in scoring the entire 2014-15 season, averaging 16.9 points per game. She was named SWAC Player of the Week twice and College Sports Madness Player of the Week five times. She also leads the conference in assists, averaging 3.6 per game. Jackson averages the most minutes played per game, 35.2. This season alone, she attempted 193 free-throws and knocked down 153, more than any another player this year. In one game, she shot 22 free-throws and made 16.
Alabama State's center, Jasmine Peeples was rewarded SWAC Defensive Player of the Year. She is leading the conference and the team in rebounding, grabbing 10.2 per game and blocked shots with 3.1 per game. She has been selected as Player of the Week twice this season. Jasmine has recorded 11 career double-doubles. She is ranked second in scoring for the Lady Hornets averaging 11.1 points per game. She recorded a game-high in rebounds when she snatched 22 rebounds January 3 against Grambling State.
Junior Forward, Norianna Haynes (Alcorn State) was named Newcomer of the Year. She leads the team and ranks fourth in the SWAC in scoring (15.1 ppg) and averages 5.8 rebounds per game. She has scored in double-figures 15-of-22 games she's appeared in this season. She averages 1.9 steals per game and shoots 78 percent from the charity stripe. Norianna scored a career-high 38 points and grabbed a career-high of 14 rebounds this season. She was named College Sports Madness Player of the Week twice.
Southern University's Briana Green was selected as Freshman of the Year. The powerful forward has been a big part of the Jaguars offense this season and a key asset in many of their wins. She has appeared in all 25 games and started in 18 games for Southern. Green ranks fourth on the team in scoring averaging 10.0 points per game, second on the team in rebounding with a 5.0 rebounds per game. She posted her first career double-double with a 16-point, 10-rebound performance against Alabama A&M. Green scored in double figures 12 times this season.
Johnetta Hayes-Perry was chosen as Coach of the Year for the 2014-15 season. She led the Lady Tigers to a 19-10 overall record and 16-2 in the SWAC, claiming a share of the Regular Season Championship Title. Hayes-Perry is in her second year head coaching for Texas Southern University.
Joining Jackson on the first team is Southern's Kendra Coleman, Alabama State's Britney Wright, Texas Southern's Alexus Johnson and Jasmine Peeples as the center.
On the second team are guards Brittney Strickland (Alabama A&M) and Texas Southern's Brianna Sidney, forwards Norianna Haynes of Alcorn State and Ayanna Hardy-Fuller of Jackson State. Jasmine Jefferson rounded out the second team at center.
The All-SWAC basketball teams are voted on exclusively by the league’s coaches, Sports Information Directors, and selected media members.
