ARLINGTON, Texas Jackson State University was named the number one seed based off preliminary play with a total pinfall of 4,762, Friday at the International Training and Research Center (Bowling ITRC).

The remaining seed listings are below:

  • #1 Seed – Jackson State
  • #2 Seed – Prairie View A&M University
  • #3 Seed – Alabama State University
  • #4 Seed – Texas Southern University
  • #5 Seed – Alabama A&M University
  • #6 Seed - Southern University and A&M College

During the first round, Prairie View A&M earned the highest pinfall count at 974 as it defeated Southern with a 178 pinfall difference. The bowler with the highest average also came from the Panthers - Brittney Wehmeier – with a pinfall of 255. Alabama State’s 911 pinfall count claimed the team the second highest score in the first round as they passed Texas Southern. The Bulldogs of Alabama A&M upset regular season champions, Jackson State, as they knocked down 879 pins to the Tigers’ 866.

Alabama A&M continued to cause havoc in the second round as it defeated second ranked Prairie View – 921 to 907. Regular season second teamer, Wehmeier received the largest pinfall count for the second time at 213, but it proved not enough as the Bulldogs took victory. The Tigers of Texas Southern also shook things up as they pushed passed JSU, 978 to 970. Southern found itself with another loss against Alabama State with a 111 pinfall difference.  

In the third round, ASU remained undefeated with an overall bowling average of 182.7. Texas Southern, PVAMU and Alabama A&M tied at a 2-1 record, while Southern and Jackson State found themselves with three straight losses. At this point, Prairie View secured the highest overall average at 189.3. When it came to eliminating pins, first teamer Dyana Abu Bakar was most successful with a count of 255.

Jackson State collected its first win of the day during the fourth match as it out-bowled Southern, 899 to 818. TSU continued its three-game winning streak as the Tigers passed Alabama A&M, 957 to 826, while the Hornets fell to the Panthers on lanes seven and eight – 951 to 937. Jessica Rodriguez of Prairie View made her debut appearance in match four, gathering the highest pinfall count of the set – 221.

The Tigers of Jackson State ended the day with a huge splash as they bowled over 1,101 total pins in their match against Alabama State, allowing them a first-place position for day one. Abu Baker set the tone for JSU with a total pin count of 258. Her pin count was the highest of the day, earning her the first spot on the 2015 All Tournament Bowling Team.
