2015 SWAC Men's Indoor Championship Recap: Day One

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The 2015 Southwestern Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships kicked off Saturday morning. For the fourth consecutive year, the Birmingham Crossplex has been the designated facility. Finals for the field events, shot put, long jump and high jump were completed today along with the 3,000 Meter Run and the Distance Medley Relay. The remaining of the events with be completed on Sunday.

HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE DAY
Jesus Hernandez (Grambling State) claimed the 3,000 meter run title, running a time of 9:00.86. Placing second was Texas Southern's David Guzman with a time of 9:06.53 and finishing the race in third place was Sorone Batiste with a time of 9:08.14.
Finishing in first place in Shot Put and capturing the 2015 SWAC title, Jackson State's Deshaun Allen completed the event with a throw of 50-07.50. Grambling State's Samuel Reese finished in second place, throwing 47-10.00. In third place, Arkansas-Pine Bluff's Ghaleb Al-Selah threw 46-11.00.
Defending the SWAC long jump title with a jump of 23-07.50 was Texas Southern's Demetrius Williams. He beat the record he set last year with a jump of 23-02.00.Coming in second place was Texas Southern's Drayton Rolle with a jump of 23-06.25 and placing third was Prairie View's Keon Campbell with a jump of 23-03.25.
Prairie View A&M finished as the SWAC Distance Medley Relay champions with a time of 10:35.54. Sorone Batiste, Darwin Allen, Dannie Luckey and Aaron Austin made up the PVAMU DMR team. Coming in second place was Grambling State with a time of 10:40.54. Finishing in third place was Texas Southern with a time of 10:44.42.
Alabama State's Devaunty Brown was crowned the men's high jump champion with a jump of 2.03 (6-08.00). Finishing second was Travis Sanders (Texas Southern) with a height of 1.98m (6-06.00). Coming in third place with a jump of 1.98 as well, with more attempts, was Mississippi Valley's Cleother Crain.
