BATON ROUGE, La. – Southern collected a 3-1 (25-22, 25-10, 23-25, 25-17) victory to stay alive in the SWAC Volleyball Tournament on Friday afternoon. Southern improves to 10-20 on the year, while Arkansas-Pine Bluff finished the year with a 7-27 record.

Jasmine Middelton paced the Southern offense with 14 kills and two digs while Chinasa Ekweariri chipped in 10 putaways, five digs and two blocks. Vaterra Calais dished out 25 assists, 11 digs and two kills while Jamie Selleneit had 16 assists and five digs. Diamond Williams collected a floor-high 27 digs in the win. Southern swung at a .237 (54 kills, 21 errors, 139 attempts) clip.

Arkansas-Pine Bluff was led by Natalie Gibbs 10 kills, and five digs as Ayanna Parker had eight putaways, 11 digs and three blocks. Kayla Dowdell had eight putaways, five digs and a service ace while Whitney Harris posted seven kills, one dig and one block. Katy Hufnagel had 34 assists and four digs while Courtney Brand collected 12 digs and a kill. Arkansas-Pine Bluff hit .081 (36 kills, 25 errors, 136 attempts) for the contest.

Southern advances to play at 11:00 a.m. at Clifford Seymour Gym on Saturday to face the losing squad from the Alabama State - Texas Southern match.
