BATON ROUGE, La. – Jackson State defeated Arkansas-Pine Bluff 3-0 (25-13, 25-14, 25-18) on Friday at the SWAC Volleyball tournament opening round at Clifford Seymour Gym. Jackson State improves to 12-21 on the season as Arkansas-Pine Bluff falls to 7-26.
Mikayla Rolle led Jackson State with 12 kills, five blocks (two solo, three block assists), two aces and two digs as Taija Thomas chipped in 13 kills, and one dig. Jenna Siddiqui dished out 23 assists, eight digs, three kills and one block assist. Keirsten Howard had 15 helpers and five digs as both Tyler Moorer and Karmen Jackson collected 12 digs. Jackson State hit at a .337 (43 kills, 11 errors, 95 attempts) clip in the straight set victory.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff was paced by Kayla Powell’s five kills and two digs while Natalie Gibbs tallied five putaways. Katy Hufnagel had 15 assists, four digs, one ace and one kill while Courtney Brand collected 11 digs, two assists, one ace and one putaway. Arkansas-Pine Bluff posted a .081 (20 kills, 13 errors, 86 attempts) hitting percentage.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff will face Southern at 3:00 p.m. in Clifford Seymour Gym while Jackson State will take on Alabama A&M at 5:00 p.m.
