Alabama State wins 2015 Women's Cross Country Title

CLINTON, Miss. – The Alabama State University women’s cross country team won its fifth-straight Southwestern Athletic Conference Championship Saturday at Choctaw Trails. The Hornets were led by Paige Rankine, who earned the top spot with a time of 18:09.85. Alabama State scored 15 points and saw eight Hornet runners finish in the top 10.
Rankine's efforts earned her the 2015 SWAC Women's Runner of the Year honor.
Alabama State Head Coach Ritchie Beene was named SWAC Women’s Cross Country Coach of the Year.
Along with Rankine, Alabama State's Artrailia LeSane, Shantia Wilson, Tatiana Etienne and Santina Williams finished second through fifth to earn first-team All-SWAC honors.
Second-Team All-SWAC consisted of Alabama State's Shakalia Williams, Texas Southern's Mariah Stewart, Alabama State's Brandee Ebert and Sad Lavallias, and Prairie View A&M's Constance Jacob.
In the team competition, Prairie View A&M placed second with a score of 85, and Texas Southern finished third with 119 points.
