BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Soutwestern Athletic Conference teams had an impressive showing during the final day of the UAB Invitational in Birmingham, Ala.

Tatiana Etienne secured Alabama State University’s only individual, first-place position as she used a 2:09.43 to win the 800 meter run, while the Hornet’s women’s 4x400 meter relay team nabbed a 3:46.96 first-place finish. Tyree Newton (16:37.53) and Andrew Coicou (17:02.04) gained top 10 access in the men’s 5000 meter run, while Santina Williams placed fourth in the women’s 400 meter dash with a time of 55.97. Artrailia Lesane crossed the finish line first for the SWAC in the women’s one mile run with a time of 5:12.68.

Jackson State University’s Deshaun Allen threw the furthest for the SWAC in the men’s shot put with a distance of 15.21 meters, while Tamarick Johnson (49.03) raced to a fourth-place finish in the men’s 400 meter dash and in the 200 meter dash (21.75).

Travion Simpson of Mississippi Valley State University’s earned a second-place finish in the long jump with a distance of 6.42m, while Deja Davis followed suit with a second-place finish in the women’s 5000 meter run at 19:45.40.

HOUSTON, Texas – The 2015 indoor track & field season began today as Prairie View A&M University and Texas Southern University traveled to Houston for the Houston Indoor Opener at Yeoman Fieldhouse on the University of Houston campus.

Quin-Tarius Crenshaw of Prairie View A&M ranked third in the men’s high jump with a jump of 1.90m, while Kaelyn Keaton grabbed third-place in the women’s 5000 meter run at a time of 22:02.70. Michael Prejean earned second place in the men’s 60 meter hurdles. William Polley crossed the finish line first for the Panthers in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.26, while Ugonna Okpala was the first to reach the line in the women’s 400 meter dash at 58.98. The men’s medley team received a fourth-place finish with a time of 11:17.19, while the men’s 4x400 relay team secured a third-place finish with a time of 3:24.73. 

Texas Southern’s Karina Foster came in third place in the women’s weight throw with a distance of 17.07m. In the women’s long jump, Terralyn Johnson captured the furthest distance for TSU as she recorded a jump of 5.42m. Johnson also gained third place in the triple jump at 11.92m. With a distance of 7.10m, Demetrious Williams gained second place in the men’s long jump followed by Drayton Rolle with a distance of 7.01m. Williams also collected a second place finish in the triple jump at 14.79m. Tevin Kimble earned a 14.46m distance for a third-place finish, followed by Ian Williams with a 13.91m finish. Jawalyn Brooks punched a second-place finish in the pole vault at 4.45m. Tiffany Heard crossed the finish line first for the Tigers in the 400 meter dash at a time of 59.14.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – During the second 2015 indoor track and field season opener of the day, four Southwestern Athletic Conference teams competed at the UAB Invitational in Birmingham, Ala.

 In the first day of the meet, Alabama State’s women’s distance medley took first-place with a time of 12:07.71, while Kimberly Wedderburn earned a 1:14.31 first-place finish in the 500 meter dash. Brandee Ebert’s 3:02.22 time gained her third place in the 1000 meter dash. Kadijah Gordon secured a fifth-place standing in the women’s triple jump at 12.07 meters, while Bryont Brown crossed the finish line first for the Hornets in the 500 meter dash at a time of 1:06.61, followed by Jalen Floyd and Shemar Rannie.

Markus Jackson from Jackson State reached the line first out of all Southwestern Athletic Conference teams in the 1000 meter run with a time of 2:41.70.

Micha Hill of Mississippi Valley State gained a fourth-place finish in the men’s weight throw with a distance of 18.00m, while the men’s distance medley punched a third-place finish with a time of 11:04.75.
