Special events around the football championship weekend will kick off with the SWAC Hall of Fame Reception on Thursday, Dec. 4 at the Westin Galleria Hotel.  In addition, SWAC will host official parties on Friday and Saturday night featuring top hip-hop talent and entertainers.  A full schedule of events will be available this fall.

With the move to Houston in 2013, the SWAC became the first conference in HBCU history to play both its football and basketball championships in professional facilities in the same city.  Almost 40,000 fans attended the 2013 game that saw Southern University defeat Jackson State University in double overtime.  The 2013 football championship recorded the third highest attendance in SWAC football championship history and was the best attended game since 2007.

“We look forward to building on the success in 2013,” SWAC Commissioner Duer Sharp said.  “Having the game at NRG Stadium gives our student athletes the opportunity to play on the same field as the Houston Texans and Super Bowl LI.  We feel confident that we can surpass last year’s attendance and set a new standard for SWAC football.”
