SWAC Athletes Displayed Solid Showing At NCAA's

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Schools from the Southwestern Athletic Conference competed at the NCAA East Preliminaries at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville.   These SWAC athletes were hoping to represent the conference at the NCAA Championships, which will be held at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon on June 11-14.

Mississippi Valley State's Jatarius Harris was just two tenths of a second away from advancing to the semifinals of the NCAA East Preliminary round.  His time of 10.67 in the Men's 100 Meter Dash was just shy of the 10.65 qualifying time.

The Alabama State University track and field teams' impressive run in the postseason also came to an end.
 
The Lady Hornets were highlighted over the weekend by individual athletes Alexis Ferebee and Santina Williams . Ferebee, a sophomore competed in the 100 meter (11.98) and 200 meter dash (24.26). Teammate Williams, also a sophomore ran a season and personal best time of 53.86 in the 400 meter dash.   
 
ASU's 4x400 meter relay consisting of Kimberly Wedderburn, Tatiana Etienne along with Ferebee and Williams who have all had a stellar season closed out the meet running a solid time of 3:48:35, but saw their hopes of advancing shattered after a costly baton drop hurting their chances towards the final stretch of the race.
