GRAMBLING STATE 13, ALCORN STATE 2

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Grambling State recorded at least a run in the first six innings to advance past Alcorn State, 13-2, in seven innings during the 2014 SWAC Baseball Tournament on Friday at MLB UYA Weslaey Barrow Stadium.
GSU (16-31) collected 11 hits with Brock Baker (3-6) pitching the complete game with a pair of strikeouts. Kris Minter and Juan Bueno had three RBI apiece. Minter tacked on a hit in all three appearances at the plate with two runs and a triple. Bueno went 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored with a double.
Edwin Drexler and Korey Hall each had two RBI. Johnathon Tineo had three runs scored with four players chipping in two runs each. In addition, four players notched a double and two recorded two triples.
Scotty Peavey led ALC (11-42) with a RBI, recording a hit in all three visits to the plate. Four pitchers saw action for the Braves with starting pitcher Charles Alridge (0-1) taking the loss in three innings on the bump. He gave up four hits and seven earned runs with a strikeout.

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Defending tournament champions, Jackson State, will return to the championship round, defeating Prairie View A&M, 8-4, on Friday during the 2014 SWAC Baseball Tournament in MLB UYA at Wesley Barrow Stadium.
Relief pitcher Vincent Anthonia (3-0) picked up the win throwing four strikeouts in 5.2 innings on the bump. He gave up three hits and a earned run.
JSU (30-23) trailed 3-2 in the bottom of the fourth before posting five runs. With the bases loaded, Gary Thomas got on base on a walk to score. On the following at bat, Desmond Russell singled up the middle for a two-RBI hit driving in Bryce Taylor and Stephen Curtis. An error scored Gary Thomas for an unearned run. Tilur Smith tacked on single to left field to plate Russell and give the Tigers a 7-4 advantage.
Russell finished 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored for the game. He gave JSU a 2-1 lead after three innings.
For PVAMU (21-30), Cody Den Beste went 2-for-5 with a pair of RBI. Jeff Sealy and Edward Robledo registered a double and Robert Cossey went 2-for-4 with a triple adding two runs scored. Charles Philpott (1-1) was tabbed with the loss throwing seven strikeouts. He gave up seven runs (5 earned) and five hits.
