NEW ORLEANS, La. - Prairie View A&M rebounded from an early deficit to eliminate western division champions, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, 12-9, on Thursday during the 2014 SWAC Baseball Tournament at MLB UYA at Wesley Barrow Stadium.

PVAMU (20-19) trailed 8-0 before outscoring UAPB 12-1, including eight runs in the eighth inning, to earn the win. Four players recorded two RBI apiece for the Panthers.

With the game in favor of UAPB (22-28), 8-4, PVAMU ripped off eight runs behind sparked by a run scored on a walk with bases loaded. SWAC Freshman of the Year, Cody Den Beste doubled to right center to score two and Greg Salcido slapped a single up the middle to add two more and push PVAMU up front 9-5.

Later in the inning, Robert Cossey chipped in a two-run triple and Jeff Sealy closed out the inning with a RBI single through the left side and extend the Panthers' lead, 12-8.

Salcido went 2-for-4 with two RBI and three runs scored. Cossey finished 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI and a run plated. Walter Wells hit 2-of-4 with a triple, RBI, and two runs scored.

Relief pitcher Sean Hollis (2-1) registered the win with six strike outs in 5.1 innings on the bump. Hollis gave up seven hits and an earned run in the ninth.

UAPB's early lead was courtesy of three home runs. Rashawn Tiillman, Vladimir Gomez, and Andre Davis recorded dingers to spotlight the Golden Lions offense. Tillman went 2-of-5 with two RBI and a run scored. Gomez hot 3-of-5 with three RBI and two runs scored and Davi finished 3-of-4 with two RBI and three runs scored.

Seven pitchers saw action for UAPB with three seeing action in the same inning. Kevin Walsh (2-1) charged the loss giving up three earned runs. UAPB closed out the game with 17 hits.

GRAMBLING STATE 14, TEXAS SOUTHERN 8

NEW ORLEANS, La. Juan Bueno recorded four RBI to help Grambling State advanced with a 14-8 rout over Texas Southern on Thursday in the 2014 SWAC Baseball Tournament at MLB UYA at Wesley Barrow Stadium.

No. 4 West seed GSU (15-31) scored five runs in the first and seven in the seventh inning to eliminate the No. 2 West seed TSU (23-29).

Juan Bueno went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and a double. Bueno singled in the firsrt plate the Tigers' first run. In the seventh, he slapped his double to right center to drive in three scores. Korey Hall, Roger Diaz and Johnathon Tineo each registered two RBI. Hall went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

T.J. Murphy (4-7) earned the win in relief appearing in four innings. He tallied one strike out, gave up four hits and two earned runs.

TSU was led by Chris DeLeon at the plate. DeLeon had a home run, four RBI, and two runs scored. Jag Gordaya finished with two RBI and Jamell Blue (2-2) was tagged withthe loss. The Tigers inserted five pitchers. Felix Gomez had five strikeouts in 5.2 innings on the bump.

Zach Welz tacked on a home run to help TSU narrow the gap in the second, 5-2. The Tigers left eight on base and recorded four errors.


JACKSON STATE 12, ALABAMA A&M 3

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Charles Tillery had three RBI and Alex Juday pitched a complete game to lift Jackson State to a 12-3 win over Alabama A&M in game seven on Thursday at MLB UYA Wesley Barrow Stadium.

Tillery went 2-for-5 with a one scored and Juday posted six strike outs giving up three earned runs. JSU (27-24) piled on six runs in the fifth and four in the eighth.

 Jose Cruz and Melvin Rodriguez and Aneko Knowles helped power the offense for the Tigers each posting two RBI. Cruz went 2-for-4 with a run scored, Rodriguez hit 2-of-4 and plated two runs, and Knowles added two runs scored notching his runs batted in with a double.

Devin Smith (4-7) was tabbed with the loss for AAMU (21-31) giving up eight earned runs. Patrick Dodson, Ramon Nelson and Jordan Friend had a RBI. Nelson and Austin Hulsey recorded the multiple hits for the Bulldogs.


ALABAMA STATE 6, ALCORN STATE 2

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Alabama State scored four unanswered runs to hold off Alcorn State, 6-2, on Thursday during the 2014 SWAC Baseball Tournament at MLB UYA Wesley Barrow Stadium.

ASU (36-19) scored three runs in the eighth and added an insurance run in the final frame. SWAC Pitcher of the Year, Joseph Camacho (10-1), pitched a complete game giving up four hits, two earned runs, while throwing four strikeouts.

The Hornets scored three runs on four ALC (12-40) errors including two in the top of the eighth. With the score evened at two, and a pair of runners on, Emmauel reached on base on a throwing error by the catcher scoring Richard Gonzalez and Marcus Swint. Dexter Price singled up the middle to plate Marrero to cap the scoring in the inning.

Marrero and Price had a RBI apiece. Gonzalez had two runs scored and Richard Amion went 2-for-5 stealing home plate to cap the Hornets' score for the game. ASU left nine stranded with seven hits.

Justin Lemon (2-3) recorded nine strikeouts giving up two earned runs and seven hits. Scotty Peavey went 2-for-4 at bat. Christian Hickman's double scored Peavey and Joshua Powell in the seventh to tie the game at two. The Braves left two on base with four hits.
