ALABAMA A&M 11, PRAIRIE VIEW A&M

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Alabama A&M scored seven unanswered runs to open the 2014 SWAC Baseball Tournament with an 11-5 win over Prairie View A&M on Wednesday at MLB UYA at Wesley Barrow Stadium.
Relief pitcher Manny Lora (2-4) tacked on the win for AAMU (21-30) appearing in five innings. He gave up two earned runs, six hits, while throwing four strikeouts.
Julio Nunez, Justin Folger, and Ramon Nelson finished with two RBI each. Nunez finished 2-of-5 with two runs scored, a double and a home run. Folger had a run scored and Neslon hit 2-for-4.
The Bulldogs led 3-0 after the first inning before PVAMU (19-29) took the lead after recording a run in the third, two in the fourth, and one apiece in the fifth and sixth frames.
With the Panthers leading, 5-4, Brandyn Crutcher drove in Jordan Friend with a single to center field. After the run tied the game at five, Nunez's two-run homer pushed AAMU up front, 7-5. Utterback closed the scoring in the inning with a single up the middle to drive in Austin Hulsey.
In the eighth, Austin Husley gave up a sacrifice fly and the Bulldogs scored two more runs from back-to-back walks with bases loaded to add insurance for the win.
PVAMU had five players to register a RBI with Robert Cossey going 2-for-4 with a home run and double. Jordan Stewart (2-5) was charged the loss in 2.2 innings on the bump. He threw three strikeouts giving up four hits and five earned runs.
ALCORN STATE 5, TEXAS SOUTHERN 4 (10)

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Alcorn State posted two runs to move past Texas Southern, 5-4, in game two of the 2014 SWAC Baseball Tournament on Wednesday at MLB UYA at Weslet Barrow.
In the 10th inning tied at three, Scotty Peavy doubled downed the left field line to score Edgardo Salas and pinch runner Brandon Vega crossed home on a pass ball to give ALC (11-40) a 5-3.
In the bottom of the inning, TSU (23-28) threatened when Tyler Edwards'singled to bring in Zach Welz. Welz jumped on after single to left center. However with one out on the board, Braves pitcher Ryan Fuentes forced a ground out and closed the game with a strike out to seal the win.
Fuentes (5-4) recorded the complete game with six strikeouts giving up 14 hits and four runs (earned).
Peavey led ALC hitting 3-of-4, three doubles, 12 on the season, with a run scored and RBI. Ashton Lewis recorded two RBI with his only hit of the game, a double on the left field line, to put the Braves up first 3-0.
The Tigers scored a run in the second, fourth, and ninth before going into extra innings. Jag Gordaya went 3-of-5 with a RBI. Andrew Garza and Conor Dishman each finished with a RBI and Robert Garza had two runs scored.
Relief pitcher Frank Cruz IV picked up the loss coming on in the sixth before giving up the deciding run in the extra inning. Cruz registered five strike outs giving up three hits and a earned run.
JACKSON 7, ARKANSAS-PINE BLUFF

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Jackson State scattered its runs enroute to a 7-1 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff in game three of the 2014 SWAC Baseball TOurnament on Wednesday at MLB UYA at Wesley Barrow Stadium.
Desmond Russell (8-4) orchestrated a complete game with eight strikeouts. He gave up five hits and one run (unearned). He homered in the sixth to spark a three-run frame to give JSU (28-23) a 4-0 lead.
The Tigers added one run in the seventh and two in the eighth.Russell, Bryce Taylor, and Charles Tillery each had a pair of RBI. Melvin Rodriguez and Jose Cruz had two runs scored.
For UAPB, Mikey Ramirez (6-5) saddled the loss with five strike outs. He gave up five earned runs and eight hits. Andre Davis handed the Golden Lions their only run scoring Valdimir Gomez on a fielder's choice.
Thr Tigers finished with 11 hits while UAPB gathered five.
