Mississippi Valley State 3, Southern 2
LONGVIEW, Texas – Mississippi Valley State picked up the 3-2 win against Southern during day two of the Southwestern Athletic Conference roundup at Lear Athletic Stadium.

Tenna Patterson picked up the win for MVSU (4-22, 2-0). She pitched in five innings and allowed three hits and recorded one strike.

The Devilettes scored three runs on seven hits. Yasmin Battle went two-for four at the plate and registering one RBI. Jahcenda Garrett finished with two hits and one RBI.

Carla Arismendi was tabbed the loss for the Lady Jaguars (0-20, 0-2), she gave up three runs, six hits and struck out two. 

Alabama A&M 14, Grambling 8
Texas Southern 8, Alabama A&M 0
LONGVIEW, Texas – Alabama A&M University defeated Grambling State 14-8  in an intense thriller on Saturday during the SWAC Roundup at Lear Athletic Complex.

AAMU (9-15, 1-1) held Grambling to 18 hits with winning pitcher Meaghan Gray (2-6) giving up four hits in five innings with five strikeouts. The Lady Bulldogs recorded seven runs and six hit in the second inning. 

Alexus Brown (1-3) picked up the loss for GSU (4-9, 1-1) giving up six hits in one innings on the bump.

Ashanti Joe recorded two hits, two runs and three RBI. Caila Durgan also tacked on the two hits for the Lady Tigers while Raquel Westerman registered three RBI.

In the second outing of the day, the Maroon & White suffered an 8-0 (five innings) loss as their bats cooled off significantly, against the Tigers of Texas Southern University.
 
Aleah Garth and Anisa Britt each recorded one hit for the Lady Bulldogs, as they fell to 9-19 (1-2).

Alabama State 10, Prairie View 8

LONGVIEW, Texas - Alabama State's Softball team take two games on the second day of the SWAC Round-up from, Prairie View by the score of 10-8 and UAPB 10-3 Saturday at the Lear Athletic Complex.
 
In the first game of the day for the Lady Hornets, found themselves with a 4-0 deficit against Prairie View in both innings one and two.  The bats came alive in the third inning on a hit up the middle by Jazzmin Romero.  Laura Augilar was hit by a pitch to land her on base moving Romero around to second.

Tamara Williams stepped up to the plate on two outs singling to left center and scoring Romero.  Aleesa Yanez then singled to right field scoring Augilar, the ladies didn't finish there as Megan Dixon hit her first homerun of the morning session, scoring Yanez and Williams advancing the score 5-4 over the Lady Panthers.
 
The score remained the same throughout innings four through five before the Lady Hornets took the plate scoring twice in the top of the sixth.  Dixon reached base on a walk stealing second, before teammate Kendall Core singled to right field, Dixon advanced to third.  Romero stepped up to the plate once more doubling to center field and scoring Tacresha Favor, (who pinched ran for Core) and Dixon ending the inning 7-5.
 
Leading off the Lady Hornets seventh, Yanez doubled to left field scoring teammate Shantelle Smith who subbed in, before Dixon hit her second homer of the game scoring two more runs to give ASU a 10-8 lead for good.
 
Dixon went 2-for-3 driving in five runs, while hitting her seventh homerun of the season.
 
Picking up from the momentum of game one the Lady Hornets took a 3-1 lead in the first inning, with Williams leading off by being hit by a pitch, before Yanez singled to right field, advancing Williams to second.  Dixon hit her third homerun taking ASU into the second inning up by two.
 
The next inning saw no change in the score, before ASU entered the third inning on a scoring frenzy.  Yanez took the lead being hit by a pitch, before getting out at second on a fielder's choice allowing Dixon to reach first base. 

Diauna Nelson making her first appearance today hit a single up the middle advancing Dixon to second, off the next batter both Nelson and Dixon moved around the bases on a passed ball.  Core hit her first homer of the day scoring three more runs to give the Lady Hornets a 6-1 lead. 

After a pitching change by the Lady Lions, ASU's Romero doubled to left center, while Brittney Wilson with her first at bat was walked.  Augilar was also walked advancing Wilson to second and Romero to third. 

Valarie Centeno reached base on a fielder's choice adding another run, before Romero scoring in the same segment on a short stops error.   The Lady Hornets scored twice more before ending the inning with seven runs and four hits.

Texas Southern 7, Alcorn 4
LONGVIEW, Texas- The Texas Southern Lady Tigers got their first two wins in league play on Saturday defeating Alabama A&M 8-0 and Alcorn State 7-4. Texas Southern now has a 2-1 mark in SWAC play.

Krystalani Yockman paced the Lady Tigers scoring attack against AAMU driving in three RBI. Brianna Bryant picked up the win going five complete innings allowing just two hits.

In the second game of the day Texas Southern moved its win streak to two games with a convincing win over Alcorn State

Jackson State 9, Southern 0
Jackson State 14, Prairie View 0
Longview, Texas- Jackson State University earned back-to-back shutout wins during the second day of conference play in the SWAC Round-Up at the Lear Athletic Complex versus Southern and Prairie View.

The Lady Tigers (9-22, 2-0) plated nine runs on 11 hits, allowing JSU to take a 9-0 victory over the Lady Jaguars of Southern University (0-20, 0-5). 

Leading the way behind the plate was Canessa Swanson going three-for three and recording four RBI.Kayliegh Thomas (0-10) took the loss for Southern giving up nine hits and eight runs while striking out four.

In the second outing of the day, the Lady Tigers defeated Prairie View 14-0 in five innings.

Victoria Nelson and Denisha Knight each recorded three hits for the Lady Tigers, as they advanced to (10-22, 3-0).

Brittanie Gardner was charged the loss in 1.1 innings for the Lady Panther (5-11, 1-2) giving up eight hits and nine runs.

Arkansas-Pine Bluff 18, Alcorn 15
LONGVIEW, Texas. – Arkansas-Pine Bluff softball defeated Alcorn State University, 18-15 on Saturday afternoon at the Lear Athletic Complex.

With the victory, UAPB improves to (4-20) on the season, and (3-13) in conference play.

The Lady Lions got their bats going, tallying 15 hits throughout the contest. UAPB rallied to score seven runs in the bottom of the third inning and four in the fourth while Alcorn trailed behind by four.

The Lady Braves (3-13, 1-1) tried making a comeback, scoring three more runs in the top of the seventh inning, but it wasn't enough as the Lady Lions capped the ball game at 18-15. Jazmin Castillo (1-7) was tabbed the loss giving up seven hits and eight runs in two innings.

Grambling State 6, Mississippi Valley 5
LONGVIEW, Texas - During the second day of the 2014 Softball SWAC round-up the Lady Tigers of Grambling State University defeated the Devilettes 6-5 in seven innings.
 
Grambling State (5-8, 2-1) was slow to get on the board in the first two innings, but Morgan Butler assisted GSU with two RBI.  From there Alyssa Fontillas and Bridgette Simmons each scored two runs.
 
Mississippi Valley (5-22, 2-1) came out in the first inning scoring their first run of the game. Brianna Holmes led the Devilettes with two hits while teammate Courtenay Brooks recorded two RBI.

Tenna Patterson was handed the loss, she pitched in 3.1 innings while allowing five hits and four runs while striking out three.
