Prairie View A&M 72, Southern 43
HOUSTON, Texas - Prairie View A&M University led by as many as 17 points at halftime and by as many as 12 in the second half to earn a 72-43 shutout over No. 1 Southern to advance to the final round of the 2014 Toyota SWAC Basketball Tournament.

PVAMUv (13-17) will face in-state rival and No. 2 seed Texas Southern on Saturday at noon. The match will air live on ESPN3. Brett Dolan will handle the play-by-play duties and former all-time leading scorer in the WNBA, Katie Smith, will serve as the colored commentator.

The Lady Panthers will look to grab their sixth championship title in the last five years while TSU battles for the crown for the first time in program history.

Jeanette Jackson led PVAMU with 18 points. Gabrielle Scott added 10 points and a team-best seven rebounds while Shamiya Brooks put up 11 boards, one assist and two blocked shots for the Lady Panthers.

With the Lady Panthers up 34-17 at the break, PVAMU grabbed its largest lead of the game at the 5:30 minute mark with a jumper from Scott. SU (20-8) went onto to score six points in the final minutes but would never get any closer.

The Lady Panthers forced SU to shoot 25 percent from the floor and only six percent (1-15) from three point range.

For the second time, PVAMU knocked the Lady Jaguars out of the semifinals round in post season play. The last time the two met, the Lady Panthers won 48-44 during the 2010-11 season.

Jasmine Jefferson led the Lady Jaguars with nine points and a game-high 16 boards.
