HOUSTON, Texas - Jeanette Jackson scored 25 points to lead Prairie View A&M over Alabama State in a 71-61 in the quarter-finals of the 2014 Toyota SWAC Basketball Tournament at the Toyota Center, Thursday.
Jackson recorded 15 points in the first half with twelve of her 25 coming from the free throw line. Jackson also finished with five steals and three assists.
After leading 36-28 at the break, PVAMU (12-17) rallied a 63-54 advantage with 2:06 left in the game. In the final minutes of the match, the Lady Panthers went on a 6-0 to grab their largest lead of the half with 50 seconds left in the game. ASU's (16-14) Ashunte Smith responded with a three but it was not enough to close the gap.
LaReahn Washington chipped in 14 points while Shamiya Brooks registered 13 and Alexus Parker added 12 to help PVAMU earn a spot in the next round.
The Lady Panthers move onto the semi-finals and will take on top seeded Southern on Friday, March 14 at 6:00 p.m.
For ASU, Jamesha Blake led the Lady Hornets with 10 points from 5-of-11 shooting.
