Men’s Results • Women’s Results

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Four Southwestern Athletic Conference teams competed in a season opener Friday, December 5 at the Birmingham Crossplex, hosted by Birmingham Southern College – Alabama A&M, Alabama State, Jackson State, Texas Southern.

Maurice Jones of Alabama A&M earned fourth place in the men’s long jump with a distance of 1.80m. DeTorrian Green clinched second place in the 60 meter dash with a time of 6.94. Green also claimed third in the 200 meter dash. The women’s distance medley team claimed third with a time of 14:45.55.

The Alabama State women’s 4 x 400 meter team secured a first-place win with a time of 3:46.82. Kadijah Gordon set the mark for all SWAC teams as she secured the longest triple jump distance of 12.06m. Alexis Ferebee came in second place in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.67 and took third place in the 200 meter dash. Santina Williams took first in the 400 meter dash with a mark of 56.45, followed by Kimberly Wedderburn in third place, with a time of 57.87. Tatiana Etienne crossed the finish line first for the SWAC teams in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:12.43. Alabama State’s women’s team came in fourth place overall.

Karina Foster from Texas Southern earned third-place in the women’s weight throw with a distance of 16.32m, while the 4 x 400 meter team collected a third-place win with a mark of 3:57.88.

Men’s Results • Women’s Results

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Prairie View A&M opened its indoor track and field season with an impressive showing at the Bob Timmons Challenge in Lawrence, Kansas, against host, Kansas and six other schools.

The men’s distant medley collected a first place position with a mark of 11:00.85, under runners Syed Hussain, Terence Mitchell, Aaron Austin and Jarrod Ballou. Hussain later earned second place with a time of 9:17.47 in the men’s 3000 meter run, followed by Ballou with a third-place finish and a mark of 9:19.44.

Sorone Batiste took the one-mile run win with a time of 4:28.14, while Destiny Carr registered a first-place win in the 200 meter dash at a time of 25.56, and Monique Green grabbed second place at 25.75.

Keon Campbell took first in 200 meter dash at a time of 22.63. Campbell later took second place at a mark of 6.93 in the 60 meter dash. Green crossed the finish line first for the women’s team with a mark of 7.84.

In the 60 meter hurdles, Deonca Bookman crossed the finish line first for the women’s team with a time of 8.85. She was later joined by Jada Curbeam at 9.59 and Angela Uhegwu at 9.70. Xavier Morris secured a first place finish for the men’s team grabbing a time of 8.46, while Robert Hall came in second at 8.51.

Quin-Tarius Crenshaw took second in the long jump, while the 4 x 400 women’s team took third with a mark of 3:55.33, under runners Deonca Bookman, Takara Coleman, Angela Uhgewu and Brandalyn Williams.

Both Prairie View A&M teams walked away with an overall second place ranking – women with a score of 128, and men with a score of 146.

JONESBORO, Ark. - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff track & field teams kicked off the season with a strong showing at the Arkansas State Kickoff Classic, Sunday afternoon n Jonesboro, Ark.

Jessica Barrera had a terrific showing in her first-ever college track meet for the Lions.  She would take second place in 400 meter dash with a time of 59-59, fellow teammate Takia Taylor finished fourth at 59.75 out of 14 runners.
 
In the field events for UAPB, Crystal Christopher finished second in the long jump as Sydnee Worlds finished second in the triple jump, with a mark of 11.34m, along with defending 2013 SWAC Indoor and Outdoor Sireta Roach finished third with a distance of 13.06.
 
In the 4x400-meter relay, UAPB (Takia Taylor, Sharoya Simmons, Crystal Christopher and Sabratina Rojas) captured first place for the Lions with a time of 4:00.12.
 
On the men's side, Juwan Parker had a good meet to start off the indoor season. He finished in third place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.51. He also finished the long jump in second place with a personal best of 7.09 meter.
 
Colin Richard led the Golden Lions in the 400-meter, finishing in third place with a time of 51.50.
 
Newcomer Ghalob Al-Siloh would shine the shot put for the Golden Lions with a fifth-place finish and mark of 13.34 meters.
 
UAPB (Andrew Bingham, Jerrel Wilson, LaMarques Woodard and Justin Cooper) also dominated the 4x40 meter relay in the men's division with a time of 3:22.78.
