Soccer Championship Preview: Howard faces Prairie View

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - #1 Howard University will face #2 Prairie View A&M University for the Southwestern Athletic Conference 2014 Women's Soccer Championship Sunday, Nov.9 at 12:00 p.m. at the John Hunt Soccer Complex.
Howard University finished the regular season 9-1 overall. The Lady Bison clinched the regular season title and secured their spot as the number one seed on Sunday, Oct. 26 as they beat Arkansas-Pine Bluff 6-0. Howard eliminated Alabama A&M in the quarterfinals, 6-0. Nia Walcott scored three of the six goals for the Lady Bison. Rasheeda Ansasri, Dytria Ruddy and Nikanya Clark pitched in one apiece. Howard started the semifinals off with a 3-0 victory over Jackson State. In the 21st minute of the second half, the Lady Bison was awarded a free kick that was capitalized by Sara Vaughan with a header in the box, securing Howard's win. Goalkeeper of the Year, Kyra Dickinson now has a record of 11-9-1 overall. Howard had three players to make All-SWAC first team, Nia Walcott, Nikanya Clark and Treschelle Gibson-Serrette.
Prairie View A&M University secured their spot as the number two seed after a big 3-2 win against Alabama A&M, a game that went into double overtime. The Lady Panthers finished 8-1-1 in conference play. PVAMU wrapped up the quarterfinals after upsetting Southern University, 2-0. All-SWAC first teamer, Celene Batrez recorded both goals. During the semifinals, the Lady Panthers had to face Alabama State University. It was a rematch of the semifinals from the 2013 Soccer Tournament. The Lady Hornets defeated Prairie View 2-1. This year, the Lady Panthers prevailed, topping Alabama State 2-0. Deborah Arguelles earned Defensive Player of the Year for Prairie View A&M. They racked in four players making All-SWAC first team, Alicia Cooper, Shelby Moore, Deborah Arguelles and Bianca Garza and one on the second team, Reina Mata.
