@Alabama 8, Mississippi Valley State 3BOX SCORETUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Mississippi Valley State University fell 8-3 to Alabama on Tuesday at Sewell-Thomas Stadium.
David Lostra (3-8) was charged with the loss for MVSU (5-42) after surrendering seven runs on 11 hits with two strikeouts in 5.1 innings.
The Delta Devils put together a rally in the fifth inning, scoring three runs to tie the game at 3-3. Three straight hits from Demetrius Bonner, Jonathan Parker and Edmund Cheatham pushed the first runner across. German Hays singled into left field to drive in Parker and Cheatham to tie ball game.
Hayes went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI. Cheatham finished 2-for-4 with a RBI and run scored.
Every starter in the Alabama (28-21) lineup recorded at least one base hit and Austen Smith and Ryan Blanchard homered to lead the Crimson Tide.
Blanchard led the offensive charge with a three-run shot, a single, and a pair of runs scored. Austen Smith went 1-for-3 with a solo home run.
Ben Moore posted a 2-for-4 day with a pair of singles, an RBI and a run scored. Moore also had a trio of stolen bases.Kenny Roberts turned in a 2-for-4 game and reached base three times on an RBI double, a single, a walk and also added a run scored. Andrew Miller registered a 2-for-3 game with a double, a single and a run scored and Mikey White finished 2-for4 with an RBI double and a single.
Brett Booth led off the sixth inning and after Miller's single down the right field line put runners on the corners, Blanchard clubbed a 0-1 pitch over the left field wall for the first home run of his career and the final tally.
Mike Oczypok (4-1) picked up the win allowing three runs on seven hits in five innings. He struck out a career-high six batters.
@Alcorn State 16, Grambling State 14BOX SCORELORMAN, Miss. - Alcorn State University used a pair of five-run innings to hold off Grambling State on Tuesday at McGowan Stadium.
Five pitchers saw action for ALCN (15-36) combining for nine strikeouts. Joseph Camp (2-1) was tagged with the win in two innings on the bump. He threw two strikeouts while giving up four earned runs.
The Braves scored four runs in the second and five runs each in the fifth and seventh.
Angel Rosa led the offense going 3-for-5 at the plate. He recorded a triple, five RBI and two runs scored. His three-RBI triple in the seventh inning push the Braves' lead.
ALCN led 15-8 going into the eigth inning before GSU (17-30) added runs to spark a rally. Brandon Kiser hit a two-RBI double before scoring on a pass ball to close the gap at the end of the frame, 16-11.
Kiser went 3-for-6 with five RBI and two runs scored. Jose Longoria, Darren Farmer and Elias
Todman finished with a pair of RBI apiece. Farmer went 4-for-6 with three runs scored.
In the top of the ninth, the Tigers added another three runs behind a RBI from Farmer, Kiser,and Todman. However, a strikeout, ground out, and a force at second snapped the Tigers comeback effort.
Relief pitcher Justin Lemond came on in the eigth to register his fourth save of the season throwing two strikeouts for the Braves battery.
Edvarda Matusevicius (0-4) was handed the loss for the Tigers. He appeared in five innings giving up nine runs (seven earned) while throwing three strikeouts.
