Texas Southern 7, Alcorn State 4

FORT WORTH, Texas - Texas Southern University recovered after losing the lead to hold off Alcorn State, 7-4, in 10 innings during the 2013 SWAC Baseball Tournament on Friday at LaGrave Field.

Chris DeLeon sparked the rally as TSU (22-30) scored three runs in the extra inning. DeLeon singled to score pinch runner Frank Cruz IV and Marquis Curry doubled and ALCN (16-41) committed an error to drive in DeLeon and Ford.

Robert Pearson (5-5) retired the side with two strikeouts to pick up the win after coming to the mound as a relief in the seventh. He finished with three strikoeouts for the game while giving up two hits and a earned run.

Ford II led the Tigers going 4-for-5 with a RBI and two runs scored. Curry registered two RBI and Adrian Lopez had two runs scored.

The Braves tied the game in the bottom of the ninth but left one on.Justin Barney scoredon a wild pitch after getting on base courtesy of a single. With two outs, Christian Hiickman struck out looking to enter the 10th frame.

Angel Rosa led ALCN hitting 2-for-3 with a RBI. Justin Barney posted three runs scored with Jordan Boston, and Angel Polo driving in a run each.

Relief pitcher, Ryan Fuentes (0-3), was on of five pitchers to see action for the Braves. He was charged with the loss after giving up three runs in 1.1 innings of action. Starter Cedric Walker finished with six strikeouts in 6.1 innings on the mound.


Prairie View A&M 11, Southern 4

FORT WORTH, Texas - Dominiq Harris and Jeff Sealy each recorded a home run to help power Prairie View A&M University to an 11-4 win over Southern on Friday at LaGrave Field.

With the win, PVAMU (25-26) eliminated SU (21-23) from the 2013 SWAC Baseball Tournament.

Harris hit a two RBI homer in the fourth inning and Sealy slapped a two-run dinger over the left-center wall.

Harris' home run pushed the Panthers' lead, 7-1, and Sealy added padding to help PVAMU stay in front 10-1.

Harris went 3-for-5 with a run scored and Sealy hit 2-for-3 with a run scored. Greg Salcido finished 2-for-4 with four RBI and two runs scored. Andre Oliver added a pair of RBI finishing 3-for-6 at the plate.

Michael Medina (5-5) pitched a complete game to post a career-high 10 strikeouts. Medina gave up 16 hits and four earned runs.

Daniel Garcia (4-5) was handed the loss with 1.2 innings on the mound. He gave up three earned runs with a pair of strikeouts.

The Jaguars left 13 runners stranded with Jose DeLa Torre recording a team high, two RBI, going 3-for-4 at the plate. Brian Rowry had two runs scored going 2-for-5.


Jackson State 7, Texas Southern 4

FORT WORTH, Texas - Jackson State University advanced to the 2013 SWAC Baseball Tournament championship game after defeating Texas Southern, 7-4, on Friday night at Lagrave Field.

JSU (33-20) trailed 3-0 before posting three runs in both the sixth and eight innings.

With JSU down 3-1, Charles Tillery hit a ground rule double to score Gabriel Babineayx and Jose Cruz's sacrifice fly plated Etahn Bright to knot the board a three. A wild pitch scored Tillery and JSU finished the frame up, 4-3.

Tillery went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI and a run scored. Bright scored two runs on four at bats getting on base with an intentional walk in the eigth. JSU scored on three wild pitches to keep the lead for the remainder of the game.

Aneko Knowles (5-2) was tabbed with the win in 6.1 innings on the bump before moving to desginated hitter. He gave three unearned runs throwing one strikeout. Desmond Russell picked up jis

De'Mario Thibodeaux led TSU (22-29) with two RBI after slapping a triple in the third to help push a 3-0 lead.

Corbin Smith added TSU's final run scoring Sebastian Stargell in the eigth.

Relief pitcher Jacob Martinez (3-1) was stamped with the loss. He threw 2.2 innings giving up six runs (five earned).


Prairie View 2, Alabama State 1

FORT WORTH - Prairie View A&M University came out on top of a pitching duel edging Alabama State, 2-1, on Friday at LaGrave Field.

PVAMU (26-26) forces a third meeting with ASU (32-24) in the 2013 SWAC Baseball Tournament on Saturday, May 18, at 3 p.m. in the semifinal round. The winner will face Jackson State in the championship game.

PVAMU dropped a 16-0 decsion to ASU in the second game of day one of the tournament.

After the third inning, The Panthers starting pitcher, A.J. Helms (3-2), did not allow a batter to reach base en route to a career game as a Division I student-athlete. He tacked on the victory with a complete game on the bump throwing 11 strikeouts while giving up one earned run.

Starter, Joseph Camacho, appeared in seven innings for the Hornets giving up two hits. He threw eight strikeouts and sat on a shut-out before reliever, Jorge Pantoja (3-3), stepped in the eigth inning.

Pantoja gave up the deciding two runs (one earned) and two hits.

After Leo Rojas stole home to give ASU a 1-0 lead after the first inning, PVAMU tallied runs in the eigth after Colby Hines doubled and Trey Price singled. Hines scored to even the score at one apiece. A costly error by the Hornets advanced Price around the bases for the deciding score.

Hines, Price, Andre Oliver and Jeff Sealy tallied the only hits for PVAMU. Price had the only RBI with a run scored.

Rojas, Waldyvan Estrada and Dexter Price combined for the toatal four hits for the Hornets.
