Alabama Holds Slim Lead After Opening Round

ALEXANDRIA, La. -- Alabama State has a slim 11-stroke lead after the first round of the 2013 SWAC Golf Championship at Links on the Bayou Golf Club.
As a team, the Lady Hornets shot a 327 on the day. Hot on their heels is defending SWAC champion Jackson State with 338. Texas Southern isn't far behind in third place with 353. Prairie View is fourth at 452, while Mississippi Valley is fifth (464) and Alcorn State sixth (470)
Individually, Kassandra Rivera of Texas Southern shot a 7-over 79 to lead the field. Defending champion Shanequa Valentine of Prairie View is tied for second with Brooklyn Kraakman of Alabama State one stroke behind at 80.
The final round of the SWAC Championship tees off at 8 a.m. on Tuesday morning.
