Prairie View A&M Faces No. 1 Baylor in First Round of NCAA

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Winner of three consecutive Southwestern Athletic Conference women's basketball tournament titles, Prairie View A&M University will face No. 1 ranked Baylor in the first round of the 2013 Division I Women's Basketball Championship Tournament.
The match-up is slated for Sunday, March 24, at 6:30 p.m. CT at the Ferrell Center in Waco, Texas. The game is scheduled to be televised on ESPN2. The Lady Panthers will be the No. 16 seed while Baylor receives the No. 1 seed of the Oklahoma City region.
PVAMU (17-14) makes its third straight tournament appearance receiving the SWAC's automatic bid. The Lady Panthers defeated Mississippi Valley State, 100-87, in four overtime periods during the championship game of the 2013 Toyota SWAC Basketball Tournament.
The last time the Lady Panthers faced the Bears was on March 20, 2011 in Waco. PVAMU suffered a 66-30 loss in the first round of the NCAA tournament. With the loss, PVAMU moved to 0-14 all-time versus Baylor.
The Lady Panthers are led by SWAC Player of the Year, Latia Williams, and tournament MVP Kiara Etienne.
Williams recorded three straight double-double performances during tournament. She currently has 22 for her career while averaging 13.2 points and 9.2 points per game.
Etienne scored 31 points in the championship game moving her average to 11.2 points per game.
Baylor (32-1) ranks at the top of of the ESPN and USA Today polls. The Bears are three-peat champions of the Big 12 Tournament and are led by Brittney Griner. Griner is averaging 23.6 points and 9.0 rebounds per contest.
