Four All-SWAC selected The Sports Network All-Americans

HATBORO, Pa. - Four players named All-Southwestern Athletic Conference at the end of the regular season were selected to The Sports Network FCS All-America team this week. The FCS outlet made the announcement with selections comprised of votes from FCS sports information contacts and members of the national media.
The list of players from the SWAC selected: wide receiver Leed Doss (Southern), punt return specialist Tavoris Doss (Alcorn State), defensive lineman Robert Simpson (Mississippi Valley State) and punter Bobby Wenzig (Alabama State) .
Lee Doss and Tavoris Doss, no relation, were named to the second team while Simpson and Wenzig landed third team honors. All four land their second All-America honor during the post season.
Lee Doss caught 78 passes to top the SWAC with 1,172 yards while complementing 11 touchdowns. For the season, he averaged 15 yards per reception and helped carry Southern to a 9-4 record, 7-2 in the SWAC, and its first SWAC championship since 2003.
Tavoris Doss helped Alcorn State to a 9-3 record (7-2 SWAC), the Braves' first winning season in seven years and nine-win campaign since 1984. He led the SWAC and FCS in punt return average at 16.1 per return. He also recorded the longest punt return for a score in the nation with a 96 yarder.
Wenzig averaged 42.8 yards per punt and recorded 24 punts of 50 yards or more, including 24 inside the 20-yard line. Simpson came into the season as one of the most highly-touted players in FCS. He finished the year with 65 tackles (14.5 for loss), 4.5 sacks, two fumble recoveries, five pass breakups and a pair of blocked kicks. In the final two games of the season – against Texas Southern and Alabama State – Simpson combined for 20 tackles (6 for loss) and three sacks.
The Missouri Valley Football Conference had the most first-team selections (eight) and tied with the Big Sky Conference for the most overall selections (14). The Ohio Valley Conference followed with 12 overall selections, followed by CAA Football with 11, the Southland Conference with nine, the Northeast and Southern conferences with eight each, the Big South Conference and Patriot League with six apiece, the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference with five, the Southwestern Athletic Conference with four, and the Ivy and Pioneer leagues with three each.
