JACKSON, Miss. - Texas Southern University defeated Alabama A&M, 3-0, to open the semi-final round of the 2013 Southwestern Athletic Conference on Saturday inside Lee E. Williams Athletics & Assembly Center.
TSU (16-11) swept the match with set scores of 25-23, 25-16, and 25-18 to force game two of the elimination round.
The Lady Tigers collected 11.5 blocks with Robyn Shannon leading the floor with 17 kills. Kali Fluke followed with 10 kills to complement six blocks.
Sarah Wooten paced TSU with 24 assists and Jyra Churchill tacked on 12. Erin Spivey led the backline with 13 digs.
For AAMU (10-20), Kyanna Sales posted nine kills and Ashley Forman produced 22 assists while leading the defense with seven digs.
Both teams will play again with the winner moving on to the championship round.
