Alabama A&M University opened up the 2013 SWAC Volleyball Tournament with a 3-1 (25-19,25-21,26-24,25-13) win over Prairie View A&M on Saturday at the Lee E. Williams Athletic & Assembly Center.
AAMU (10-26) posted 57 kills in the match, five more than PVAMU's 52. The Lady Bulldogs registered 51 assists, with 48 of them coming from Ashley Forman. AAMU tacked on nine blocks to overpower the Lady Panthers.
Leslie Ekpe recorded 15 kills with a hitting percent of .464. Rebecca Cortez led the back line with a game high 19 digs. Kyanna Sales posted a double-double with 12 kills and 12 digs. Maria Ramos also posted double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs.
PVAMU (9-19) was led by Candyce Alexander's game high 20 kills and 10 digs. Kelsey Espinosa registered a team high 41 assists and 12 digs to assist the Lady Panthers.
Lakeisha Allen also lposted in double figures with 12 digs to help PVAMU's defense.
