Arkansas-Pine Bluff 3, Jackson State 1(25-23, 25-21, 18-25, 27-25)
BOX SCOREJACKSON, Miss. – University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff jumped started its play in the 2013 SWAC Volleyball Tournament with a 3-1 win over host, Jackson State on Saturday at the T.B. Ellis Physical Education Center.
UAPB (13-21) won the match in four sets from scores of 25-23, 25-21, 18-25 and 27-15.
Ashlie Jones and Jordan Foyer both finished with double-double. Jones recorded 11 kills and 10 digs for Lady Lions while Foyer contributed a game high 40 assists to couple 10 digs.
Ayanna Parker led the team with 12 kills and eight digs. Courtney Brand led the back line with 13 digs while chipping in four assists and five service aces.
Jenna Siddiui led JSU (8-20) with a double-double posting 39 assists and 16 digs. Mikayla Rolle led the Lady Tigers, posting a double digit with 14 kills while hitting .308. Paige Williams and Kennede Banks had nine kills nine apiece. Jasmine Knight guided the defense with 10 digs.
UAPB captured two games before exchanging the third game with JSU. The Lady Tigers opened the last match followed by a point exchange with the Lady Lions. At 6-7, JSU went on a 5-0 run before a time-out by UAPB.
UAPB gained control to tie the score at 25-25 to clinch the victory courtesy of a kill from Audrey Sherles for the final tally, 27-25.
