About the Championship
The 2013 Southwestern Athletic Conference Volleyball Championship will take place Saturday, November 23 and Sunday, November 24 at Lee E. Williams Athletics and Assembly Center and T.B. Ellis Physical Education Center on the campus of Jackson State University.
The top eight teams based on SWAC divisional records qualify for the double elimination championship. The team with the best record in their division is champion and earns the top seed in the championship tournament.
This year marks the 25th year schools will participate in the league championship. The winner of the championship receives the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
Alabama A&M, Grambling State, Jackson State, Prairie View A&M, Southern and Texas Southern are the only teams to have captured the conference postseason championship.
Last year Jackson State won its second consecutive postseason title. Prior to JSU's consecutive wins, Alabama A&M had claimed the title for four consecutive years and 10 of the last 13 tournament championships.
The championship match will broadcast live on ESPN3.com at 3 p.m. CT and will air tape delay on ESPNU on Sunday, November 24 at 8:30 p.m. Fans can follow live stats for all matches.
