Mississippi Valley State captures 2013 Men's Cross Country

CLINTON, Miss. – Mississippi Valley State University men's cross country team captured the 2013 Southwestern Athletic Conference Cross Country Championship on Monday at the Watson Cross Country Course of Choctaw Trails.
It marked the fourth overall championship title for the Delta Devils including their third in the last four years.
MVSU had three runners to finish in the top 10 totaling 66 points. Alabama State came in second scoring 81 points. Prairie View finished third (83) with Grambling State (90), Jackson State (97), Texas Southern (119), Southern (155), Alcorn State (210) and Arkansas – Pine Bluff (212) rounding out the team scores.
MVSU's Daniel Kibet won the individual crown in the men’s 8K for a consecutive year crossing the finish line at 26:28.16. As a result, he earned the SWAC Cross Country Male Athlete of the Year. His teammate, Felix Kiprop, finished second with a time of 26.28.16.
Sorone Batiste (Prairie View A&M) was third (26:37.62) and Brian Alvarado (Texas Southern) crossed the line in fourth (27:23.18). Brandon Cooms (Alabama State) closed out the top five (27:27.28) to make up the All-SWAC first-team.
Mississippi Valley State's Danielle Douglas was tabbed as the SWAC Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year.
