NEW ORLEANS, La. - Southern University dropped a tough contest to University of New Orleans, 3-0, at the Human Performance Center on Wednesday night.

The Jaguars (1-13) fell in three sets by the score of 27-25, 25-14, 25-23.

Marisol Macias totaled 10 kills for SU with Chanda Journet pacing the offense with 27 assists. Marisol also tacked on nine digs and Michelle Williams led the Jaguars with 12.

UNO (4-10) snapped an eight-game losing streak using a balanced attack and was powered by Marti Richmiller's career-high 14 kills. Lauren Levy led all players with 16 digs and Ariane Labrzycki established a career-high with 37 assists.

Both teams battled through 11 ties and five lead changes in the opening frame. SU led 24-21, before UNO rattled off consecutive kills during a 3-0 run that sent the stanza into 'extra points'.

The Jaguars gained one more set point before UNO closed out the frame 27-25 with another 3-0 run.

The momentum stayed in the Privateers' favor in the second stanza. Leading 11-10, UNO reeled off 11 of 12 points, including a run of six straight to stay aggressive. SU could not counter and find rhythm in the offense giving up the second set to trail 2-0 at the intermission.

The third set experienced 17 ties and seven lead changes. However, the Jaguars could not convert. With the frame tied at 23, a costly SU attack error set up the match-point for UNO to claim the set and victory.
