Rankin and Coombs Repeat as Runners of the Week

Alabama State runners Paige Rankin and Brandon Coombs are once again SWAC Runners of the Week for Week 2.

Rankin, a freshman from McDonough, Ga. repeated as the women's cross country honors while Coombs, who is also a freshman, took men's honors for the second straight week.

For the third time this season Rankin was the first Lady Hornet to cross the finish line with a 10th place finish at the Azalea City Classic in Mobile, leading ASU to a 7th place finish.  The event was hosted by the University of South Alabama and had 15 teams and 115 runners.  Her finishing time was 23:09.78.  It was her first collegiate 6K event.

Coombs ran the first 8K of his collegiate career at Azalea City Classic.  The Evans, Ga. native finished 36th in the event crossing the finish line with a time of 27:51.80 helping lead ASU to a 12th place finish.
