Hornets Run Away with 4th Straight Indoor Title

For the fourth straight year, the SWAC crowned Alabama State as its women's indoor track and field champions on Friday at the Birmingham Crossplex.
The Hornets nearly lapped the field with 196.5 points. Prairie View finished second with 127.5 points, and Mississippi Valley State was third at 65 points.
Nearly half of the 16 events finished in record-setting performances. Seven meet records were set over the two-day event.
Alabama State was led by field events Most Outstanding Performer, Jahneel Tyrell, who tallied 20 points with a win in the long jump (5.73m), a second place finish in the high jump, and a seventh place finish in the triple jump.
Mississippi Valley State's Joyce Chumo garnered track Most Outstanding Performer honors by scoring 28 team points. She set a meet record in the 5000 (18:27.47), also won the 3000 (10:26.38), and finished second in the mile.
