PINE BLUFF - Arkansas-Pine Bluff is winless no more. The Lady Lions rolled out to a big lead and held on for their first of the season. LaKendra Marsh paced UAPB with 16 points. Chigozi Okwumabua added 13 points and seven rebounds, while Jazmyne Victorian contributed 10 points and nine rebounds. Kayla West led TSU with 14 points and Morgan Simmons pulled down 13 rebounds to go with nine points. UAPB led 30-18 at halftime and by as much as 23 pionts in the second half at 48-25 with 12:55 left.
Mississippi Valley State (13-12, 10-4) 63, Prairie View (10-14, 7-6) 56
ITTA BENA -- Brittney Lakes celebrated Senior Day in fashion Saturday, scoring 20 points and grabbing seven rebounds to lead Mississippi Valley State to a win over Prairie View A&M. Lakes hit 9-of-15 shots to end MVSU's two-game losing skid. Ka'Neisha Smith added eight points, 10 rebounds and two blocks for a Devilette team that is currently in second place in the SWAC. Latia Williams led Prairie View with 15 points. Kiara Etienne added 13 points while Jeannette Jackson chipped in 11. Valley led 33-27 at halftime. MVSU shot 37.3 percent and hit six of 19 shots from behind the arc. Prairie View, meanwhile, shot 38.5 percent and hit five of 17 three-pointers.
Alabama A&M (13-10, 8-5) 67, Southern (11-10, 10-4) 62
HUNTSVILLE - Alabama A&M got a measure of revenge on Saturday, knocking off Southern at Elmore Gym. With the win, the Lady Bulldogs evened the score with the Jaguars, who laid a beatdown on them in January in Baton Rouge. A&M also moved closer to the front of the SWAC pack. Shundray Davis led the way for the Lady Bulldogs with 19 points. Jasmine Sanders added 17 points, while Whiquitta Tobar tallied 12 points and eight rebounds and Nadra Robertson contributed 10 points. Southern also had four players in double-figures, led by Adrian Sanders who finished with 19 points. Kendra Coleman and Essence Hopkins each scored 13 points, while Jamie Floyd had 11 points and 14 rebounds.
Grambling (12-12, 8-6) 64, Jackson State (10-13, 7-7) 56
GRAMBLING - Cierra Ceazer scored 18 points and two other players scored double figures as Grambling beat Jackson State. Ceazer was 7-for-11 from the field, including 3-for-4 from 3-point range. She also had six rebounds. Savannah Carter added 13 points and seven assists, while Markisha Patterson finished with 10 points and six rebounds. Tiffany Kellum and Dominique Brothern each had 11 points to lead JSU. Alisa Ross also made double digits with 10 points.
Alabama State (10-12, 7-6) 62, Alcorn State (10-14, 8-6) 57
MONTGOMERY - Quenton Alford had 18 points and 17 rebounds to lead Alabama State to a win over Alcorn State. Alford hit 6-of-8 fieldgoals and 6-of-7 freethrows. Of her 17 rebounds, six came on the offensive glass. Renelle Richmond led Alcorn State with 20 points, while Tiffany Stewart added 18. As a team, Alcorn struggled from the field, hitting only .298 (14-of-47) from the field. The Lady Hornets shot only .354 from the field, but went to the line 34 times, knocking down 25.
