Alabama A&M 4, Grambling State 1
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. -- The Lady Bulldogs captured their first win of the season, knocking off Grambling State. A&M improved to 1-11, while Texas Southern fell to 2-7.
Carre Rodriguez scored two goals and had an assist to lead the way for the Lady Bulldogs. Nycole Henderson and Ana Huertas each had a goal and assist, while Diana Amafoa contributed an assist.
Sierra Ardnt scored the only goal for Grambling.
Linda Aboagye and Marissa Oehler combined to make six saves and allowed only one goal for A&M. Nahomie Lagardere had 13 saves for Grambling.
A&M got on the board quickly when Rodriguez scored her first goal 1:27 into the game. Huertas added her goal in the 21st minute to give A&M a 2-0 lead.
GSU cut the deficit in half on Ardnt's goal in the 30th minute. However, Rodriguez struck again in the 52nd minute off of Henderson's assist. Huertas and Rodriguez combined to assist Henderson on the final goal of the game in the 65th minute.
Prairie View 3, Alcorn State 1
LORMAN, Miss. -- Prairie View improved upon their league-best overall record with a win over Alcorn State. The Lady Panthers improved to 6-7, while Alcorn State slipped to 1-10.
Angie Guillory, Maria Sanchez and Navyd Diaz each scored goals for PVAM. Guillory added an assist, as did Yosselyn Aguilar. Chavon Douglas tallied the lone goal for Alcorn State.
Diaz opened the scoring for PVAM, finding the back of the net with an assist from Guillory in the 9th minute. Guillory scored an unassisted goal in the 55th minute to give the Lady Panthers a 2-0 lead. Less than three minutes later, Sanchez made it 3-0 with a goal in th 59th minute.
Douglas broke up the shutout for Alcorn State, scoring on a penalty kick with 16 seconds left in the game.
Mississippi Valley 3, Texas Southern 1
ITTA BENA, Miss. -- Mississippi Valley did all of the their scoring in the first half and cruised past Texas Southern. With the win, MVSU improved to 3-8-1, while TSU fell to 2-12.
Bianca Vigliante had two of the MSVU goals, while Brooke Feikert added the other. Hailey Beekman also had an assists for the Devilettes.
Jessica Smith scored the only goal in the game for TSU.
Vigliante's first goal opened the scoring for MVSU in the 8th minute. Her unassisted goal came after a TSU foul. Then, in the 16th minute, Beekman assisted Feikert for the second MVSU goal. Just before the half, Vigliante scored on a penalty kick in the 44th minute.
Smith posted the TSU goal in the 60th minute, with an assist from Nancy Cadenas.
MVSU goalkeeper Shelby Willcocks had six saves to earn the win.
Jackson State 1, Southern 0
JACKSON, Miss. -- Alexandria Goutier's goal early in the second half lifted Jackson State (4-9-1) to a win over Southern (0-9).
After a scoreless first half, Goutier scored an unassisted goal in the 49th minute.
The defense did the rest as Southern was limited to only two shots. Meanwhile, JSU fired 30 shots, nine on goal.
JSU keeper Taylor Emerson faced only one shot-on-goal and made the save. SU keeper Sarah Forde faced nine attacks on net and stopped eight.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff at Alabama State
MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Brittany Boler scored a goal and Kristen Moore came off the bench to score another to lead Arkansas-Pine Bluff to a shutout win.
Alyssa Cobbs earned the shutout in goal, needing only one save behind a stingy defense.
Alabama State outshot UAPB 12-3, however the Lady Lions made the best of their opportunities.
Boler got UAPB on the board with a goal in the 12th minute. Moore added insurance in the 16th minute. Both goals were unassisted.
