The Southwestern Athletic Conference announced its football players of the week for games played October 8.
Offense - Rico Richardson (WR, Jackson State)
- Richardson caught 5 passes for 174 yards and 2 touchdowns in the Tigers 48-10 victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff. He averaged 34.8 yards per catch. The 174 yards receiving is the second highest total in the SWAC this season.
Defense - Adrian Hamilton (DE, Prairie View A&M)
- Hamilton continued his stellar play in leading the Panthers to a 23-20 victory at Southern. He finished with 7 total tackles (6 solo), 4.0 tackles-for-loss (13 yards), 2.0 sacks (8 yards), 2 forced fumbles, and 3 quarterback hurries. He leads the nation in sacks with 9.0 on the season.
Newcomer - Ariane McCree (LB, Jackson State)
- McCree came through with the biggest special teams play of the game that sparked JSU's big second half against UAPB. He blocked a UAPB punt and returned it 21 yards for a touchdown that gave the Tigers a 21-10 lead early in the 3rd quarter.
Specialist - Bobby Wenzig (PK, Alabama State)
- Wenzig connected on all 9 of his kicks in the Hornets 43-29 victory at Texas Southern. He scored 19 points with 5-5 field goals and 4-4 PATs, with a long field goal of 40 yards.
