Jackson State scored 14 points in the first, second and fourth quarters as they captured the 2007 SWAC Football Championship with a 42-31 decision over Grambling State. The win was the first for Jackson State under the new format and their first conference title since 1996. For Jackson State (8-4), Jimmy Oliver finished completing 16-of-30 pass attempts for 249 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. Lavarus Giles, starting in place of the injured Erik Haw, gained 117 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries. Christopher Johnson, Terrance Jones, and Cedric Dixon each caught a touchdown in the game. For Grambling State (8-4), Brandon Landers completed 18-of-38 passes for 229 yards and two touchdowns. Clyde Edwards caught seven passes for 72 yards in the game. Edwards closed out his successful career at Grambling State with seven receptions for 72 yards. Edwards, who already became GSU's all-time touchdown leader among receivers in October, became GSU's all-time leader in receiving yards in the first half and receptions in the second half. Defensively, Jackson State's Marcellus Speaks finished with eight tackles, an interception and a pass breakup; Marcus Jamison had seven tackles in the game. For Grambling State, DeMichael Dizer, Keefe Hall and Zaire Wilborn each had seven stops in the game. JSU's Jimmy Oliver was named offensive most outstanding player of the game; JSU's Dominique Johnson was named defensive most outstanding player of the game.
