HOUSTON, Texas - After two years of learning the system the Texas Southern University football squad looks to bounce back with a vengeance. With numerous starters returning, the Tigers seek to build and improve this upcoming season.
Coach Darrell Asberry returns for his third season with a plethora of returning talent that can build the foundation for success for years to come. On the defensive side, All-SWAC first team honoree defensive lineman Amir Bloom returns for his junior year. Bloom led the SWAC in 2013 with 8 sacks and was third in the conference with 13.5 tackles for loss despite sitting the last 2 games due to injury.
Also returning for his senior year is defensive back Brandon Thomas. The All-SWAC honoree led the Tigers with 82 tackles with 48 of those unassisted.
Offensively, junior quarterback Homer Causey returns for the Tigers looking to build off a solid 2013 season. He averaged 145.5 yards per game with five passing touchdowns on the year. He’ll have two returning wide receivers in Fred Plummer and Malik Cross who combine to give the Tigers a very capable one-two punch.
Recruiting Class
With 16 new Tigers stepping on the field as well, the future looks bright for the Tigers program. Asberry spoke highly of his new recruiting class combined with his current team.
“We believe we got something special when you add the 2014 class to the two classes we already signed," said Asberry. "The coaches did an exceptional job recruiting and the future looks a lot brighter for the Tigers."
