Alabama A&M announces head coach Jones' departure

NORMAL, Ala. - Alabama A&M University announced that football head coach Anthony Jones will not return next season.
The announcement was made by Director of Athletics Bryan Hicks on December 1. Jones was informed that his contract will not be renewed.
"We are very grateful and appreciative of the work he has done with A&M Athletics. We thank Coach Jones for his efforts and leadership of the football program and wish him much success in his future endeavors."
Considered the Dean of SWAC Football due to his tenure in the league, Jones finished his 12-year stint at AAMU with an 83-57 record. He cracked the century mark for career wins this season and is currently 101-70 overall as a head coach in 15 years.
Jones guided AAMU to nine winning seasons including six seasons with eight or more wins. He led the Bulldogs to five SWAC East Division titles including that many appearances in the SWAC Football Championship game.
In 2006, AAMU captured its first championship game title and its only crown under Jones. Against SWAC opponents, he finished 61-37 at the helm of AAMU Football.
Offensive coordinator Cedric Pearl is serving as interim head coach as Alabama A&M searchs for a replacement. The University is presently conducting a national search.
