BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southwestern Athletic Conference announced weekly awards following the second week of regular season action on the pitch where Alcorn State’s Grace Ambrose added her second Offensive Player of the Week honor, Prairie View A&M’s Nenah Jackson crowned as Goalkeeper of the Week, Grambling State’s Jaleah Gonzalez’ adding her first honor for Newcomer of the week along with fellow Lady Tiger, Kaylen Jankans earning Defensive Player of the Week.
 

SWAC Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week: Grace Ambrose, Alcorn State
The Junior Forward from Aba, Nigera adds her second consecutive weekly award appearing and starting in the lone match for the Lady Braves during the week of August 17-August 23^rd. Ambrose outdid herself from the previous week as she contributed to an offensive firepower win over Nicholls on Thursday, August 20th. Ambrose added a hat trick, marking the first in her Alcorn State career. Tied at one apiece, Grace Ambrose struck with a goal to put Alcorn State in the lead at the 35^th minute. As the action picked up in the second half, Ambrose amped the intensity scoring a game-tying goal at the 50^th minute followed by her third goal six minutes later, putting the Lady Braves back in the lead. The offensive firepower was highlighted by Grace Ambrose and Annick Zouma each having a hat trick in the win. Grace Ambrose currently leads the SWAC with four goals, two assists and 10 points. Ambrose has a top-20 ranking in the NCAA in goals (#12 ranking) along with total points (12 ranking).
 

SWAC Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week: Kaylen Jankans, Grambling State
The Senior Defender from Orange County, California appeared and started in the lone match played by Grambling State against Nicholls on Sunday, August 23, where she helped aid the comeback for the Lady Tigers to finish with a draw in the second half. Following an early 2-0 deficit though the first 45, the SWAC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year provided her field experience with helping Grambling State adjust to Nicholls’ offense. In the second half, Grambling State allowed just four shots while Jankans contributed one shot on offense while the Lady Tigers added a total of 10 shots in the second half. The second half adjustments wiped the 2-0 deficit from the board, seeing Grambling score two goals to end the match in a draw. Jankans adds her first weekly award of the season and continues to add many accolades to her resume.


SWAC Women’s Soccer Newcomer of the Week: Jaleah Gonzalez, Grambling State
The Freshman Midfielder from Reading, Pennsylvania appeared in the lone match played by Grambling State against Nicholls on Sunday, August 23. Trailing 2-1 with 15 minutes left in the match, Gonzalez took her opportunity scoring the game-tying goal at the 75th minute which ultimately wiped away the deficit to end the match in a draw. Gonzalez has appeared in two matches while starting in one, adding one goal, two points and a .500 shot on goal percentage. Jaleah Gonzalez adds her first weekly honor in her collegiate career followed by early contributions to an experienced program.
 

SWAC Women’s Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week: Nenah Jackson, Prairie View A&M
The Sophomore Goalkeeper from Mansfield, Texas appeared and started in two matches played during the week of August 17-August 23, where she tallied nine saves through the two matches against University of Texas Rio Grande Valley and Texas A&M- Corpus Christi. Jackson is ranked #2 in the SWAC with 21 saves and ranked #14 in the NCAA. Nenah Jackson was named to the Preseason All-SWAC Second Team and adds her first weekly honor of the season.
