BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southwestern Athletic Conference has announced the appointment of Desean Bullock as its Director of Multimedia, Creative Content and Sports Information. Bullock joins the SWAC after serving two years as the Director of Athletic Communications at the University of South Carolina Upstate.

"We are excited to welcome Desean Bullock to the Southwestern Athletic Conference family," said SWAC Commissioner Dr. Charles McClelland.

"Desean has established himself as one of the emerging leaders in athletic communications through his creativity, innovation and commitment to telling the stories of student-athletes and institutions. His experience in multimedia production, digital content and sports information will strengthen our communications efforts as we continue to elevate the SWAC brand and expand the reach of SWAC TV."

Bullock joined the Southwestern Athletic Conference staff in July 2026 and has already made an immediate impact while helping prepare for the 2026-27 academic year.

During his tenure at USC Upstate, Bullock managed social media, website maintenance and media coordination for the Spartans' athletic department. During his tenure, USC Upstate captured consecutive Big South Softball Championships in 2025 and 2026 and advanced to the NCAA Clemson and Tuscaloosa Regionals.

During the 2026 Big South Softball Championship, hosted by USC Upstate, Bullock served as the tournament's media coordinator and official statistician for all eight games. In addition to his sports information responsibilities, he served as the primary photographer and videographer for team and recruiting photo shoots.

Prior to USC Upstate, Bullock served as Sports Information Director at Point University (Ga.) from August 2022 through January 2025, where he oversaw the athletic communications efforts for 13 varsity sports and helped launch and promote the university's inaugural women's flag football program in 2023. He also played a key role in the coverage of Point's women's basketball team as it captured the Appalachian Athletic Conference Championship, the first conference title in school history.

Bullock also rebranded the department as the Skyhawk Sports Network, introducing livestreams, behind-the-scenes content and student-athlete features. During his tenure, the network produced the most-viewed livestream in school history, drawing more than 7,100 viewers for a football game.

Bullock was named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) 30 Under 30 Class of 2023, recognizing emerging leaders in strategic, creative and digital communications. He also served as a panelist at the CSC Convention in Las Vegas on the session titled "Five Different Black Men from Diverse Institutions," marking the first time such a panel had been featured at the convention.

In June 2024, Bullock earned his first CSC Creative and Digital Design Contest Award after receiving top honors in the NAIA category for Hype/Pre-Game Video. He later returned to the CSC Convention in 2025 as a moderator for a panel discussing career advancement in athletic communications with representatives from the NAIA, NCAA Division III and NCAA Division I levels.

Beyond his campus responsibilities, Bullock served as Graphics Coordinator for the NAIA Softball World Series in 2023 and 2024, which was televised on ESPN+. He has also worked as the public address announcer for the NCAA Division II SIAC Softball Tournament and has served as a statistician at the scorer's table since 2023 in basketball, volleyball, baseball, softball and lacrosse, while also working as a football spotter.

Bullock earned his bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies with concentrations in English and Sports Management from Faulkner University in 2021. While at Faulkner, he began his career in athletic communications as a student broadcaster, producer and writer with the Faulkner Sports Network. His first experience in the profession came in March 2021 when he served as graphics coordinator for an Alabama State University softball game against Texas Southern.

A native of Hernando, Mississippi, Bullock brings extensive experience in creative content production, ESPN+ broadcasts, graphic design, photography, videography and athletic communications to the Southwestern Athletic Conference.
