Southern's Alase Leads SWAC Performances at NCAA Outdoor Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southwestern Athletic Conference was represented on the national stage at the 2026 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships held June 10-13 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
 
Southern's Tashina Alase turned in the conference's top performance at the national championship meet, earning an eighth-place finish in the women's 100-meter hurdles. Alase recorded a time of 13.18 in the championship final to secure First Team All-America honors and score a top-eight national finish.
 
Florida A&M's Leonard Mustari represented the SWAC in the men's 110-meter hurdles, finishing 20th nationally with a time of 13.58. The Florida A&M women's 4x100-meter relay team secured a berth to the national championship meet following their performance at the NCAA East First Round competition in Lexington, Kentucky.
 
Alabama A&M's Justin Walker competed in the men's long jump and placed 22nd nationally with a mark of 6.69 meters (21-11½).
 
Alabama State freshman Daedrian Beville competed for the Hornets in the women's triple jump at historic Hayward Field. She recorded a mark of 13.19 meters (43 feet, 3¼ inches) on her opening attempt, finishing first in Flight One.

The NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships featured the nation's top collegiate athletes across all events and served as the culmination of the 2026 outdoor season.
 
The performances by Alase, Beville, Mustari, Walker and Florida A&M’s relay team highlighted the SWAC's continued presence on the national stage while showcasing the conference's ability to compete among the nation's elite.
