BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- Justen Crews racked up four RBIs to help lead the Florida A&M Rattlers over the Grambling Tigers 9-1 on Saturday.
Senior Cody Williams (got the win for Florida A&M. The right-hander went eight innings, giving up one run on eight hits, allowing three walks and striking out seven. FAMU's Ryan Young also pitched going one shutout inning without allowing a hit.
Crews went 2-for-5 in addition to his four RBIs for the Rattlers while Jay Campbell compiled a standout effort as well, going 1-for-2 with a double, three walks and three RBIs. William Brown also chipped in for Florida A&M, putting together two hits in five trips to the plate while adding a double.
The Rattlers were trailing 1-0 in the third inning when they first put runs on the board. Florida A&M scored three runs in the frame, highlighted by a two-run single off the bat of Crews.
The Tigers failed to push any runs across before the Rattlers built on their lead in the fifth inning. Florida A&M pushed across a run on Campbell's RBI double, which brought the score to 4-1 in favor of the Rattlers.
Florida A&M kept Grambling scoreless before building their lead to 9-1 in the eighth inning. The Rattlers bats heated up in the inning, scoring five runs, including a two-run single off the bat of Crews. The score remained 9-1 for the rest of the game, as Florida A&M coasted to the win.
Grambling State's Mason Martinez was credited with the loss after pitching four innings allowing five hits and one earned run. Aries Gardner provided the Tigers with their only RBI.
FAMU will match-up with rival Bethune-Cookman Sunday at 1 p.m. CST. The contest will be televised live on ESPN +.
