BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- Jackson State tallied double-digit hits for the second consecutive day at the Southwestern Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament on its way to a 12-6 victory over Texas Southern in an elimination game on Thursday morning.
Jackson State pounded out 13 hits on the day led by Hederick Torres finishing 3-for-3 with three runs scored and a double, Jordan McCladdie finished 2-for-4 wita paih a pair of runs scored and r of RBI, while also adding a pair of doubles and a pair of stolen bases.
JSU’s Arjun Huerta finished 2-for-4 with a run scored and Ledy Alvarez 2-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI. Jackson State’s Robert Tate Jr. finished 1-for-4 with his lone hit being his first career home run.
Jackson State’s Erick Gonzalez got the start and went 6.1 innings allowing one run on just three hits with eight strikeouts on 120 pitches before giving way to Stevins Spurgeon Jr. in top of the seventh inning.
TSU’s Bryce Hughes led the Tigers at the plate with two RBIs on two hits. Texas Southern's Justin Mayes was tagged with the loss after pitching six innings and allowing nine hits and six earned runs.
