Former Jackson State Tiger Sanders picked by Cleveland in the fifth round

GREEN BAY, Wisc.- Shedeur Sanders became the second former Jackson State Tiger to go in the 2025 NFL Draft when he heard his named called in the fifth round on Saturday.

Sanders, the Jerry Rice and Deacon Jones Award winner at Jackson State, was the 144th overall pick by the Cleveland Browns who traded up in the round with the Seattle Seahawks. He played his first two seasons at Jackson State passing for 70 touchdowns. He finished his career connecting on 616-of-901 for 6,989 yards, completing 68.4 percent of his passes during that span.

During his freshman campaign, Sanders led Jackson State to the Celebration Bowl by completing 272-of-413 passes for 3,231 yards for 30 touchdowns, and followed that up completing 344-of-488 passes for 3,758 yards with 40 touchdowns and a second consecutive trip to the Celebration Bowl.

He finished his career completing 1,267-of-1,808 for 14,353 yards and 134 touchdowns between the Tigers and Colorado, and was awarded the 2024 Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award.
