Championship Flashback: Alabama State Claims SWAC Women's Bowling Tournament Championship Title

This past season the Southwestern Athletic Conference crowned champions in 18 sports. In what was a remarkable athletic year, we look back at the teams that emerged as league champions. Our next flashback features the 2024 SWAC Women's Bowling Tournament Champions, Alabama State University. 

Final Results

ARLINGTON, Texas- The Alabama State Hornets claimed the 2024 SWAC Women’s Bowling Tournament Championship Title behind strong performances from Lyric O’Steen and Savanna Razor. The Hornets defeated the No. 1 seed Southern Jaguars in a best of seven series winning 4-3.  

Led by head coach Andrew Chatmon, ASU won its third tournament title in the past seven seasons while also clinching an automatic qualifier berth in the 2024 NCAA Women’s Bowling Tournament.

“This tournament title shows that the program is moving in the right direction and that we are starting to accomplish many of the goals that we set,” said Alabama State’s Chatmon.

“We’ve been here for the past three years in a row and we’ve won this tournament twice now. Our goal now is to take this program to the next level in the NCAA Tournament. Savanna Razor along with Lyric O’Steen and this entire team, they are fighters. We truly have some great leaders and that is what every team needs to be successful.”

The Hornets will find out their next opponent during the 2024 NCAA Women’s Bowling Selection Show which is slated to be broadcast on NCAA.com on Wednesday, March 27 at 3:00 pm CST.
