Jackson State University Tops NTCA All-Academic Scholar Teams

WICHITA, Kansas- Jackson State University, representing the Southwestern Athletic Conference, clinched the highest team GPA award among NTCA-affiliated NCAA Bowling programs, with an exceptional cumulative team GPA of 3.77 for the 2023-24 academic term.
 
Leading the academic charge at Jackson State were standout scholars Stephanie Vasquez, a Graduate Student hailing from Hollister, California, pursuing a Masters in Social Work; Taiona Farmer-Jackson, a Senior from Lewisville, Texas, focusing on Communicative Disorders; Juliana Rincon Cardenas, a Junior from Cali, Colombia, majoring in Journalism and Media Studies with a focus on Sport Media; Catalina Tover Gaitan, a Junior from Bogota, Colombia, specializing in Computer Science; and Amya Anderson, a Sophomore from Huntsville, AL, concentrating on Management.
 
Among the top five academically distinguished NTCA member programs are Merrimack College, Sacred Heart University, Stephen F. Austin State University, and Louisiana Tech University.
 
Every academic year, the National Tenpin Coaches Association commends NCAA bowling teams for their academic prowess. To be eligible, programs must maintain a cumulative team GPA of 3.2 or higher and remain active members of the NTCA. This year, a commendable sixty-one (61) bowling programs have met this distinguished standard, as detailed below.

About the SWAC
The Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) is considered one of the premier HBCU conferences in the country and currently ranks among the elite in the nation in terms of HBCU alumni playing with professional sports teams.
 
Current championship competition offered by the league includes competition for men in Baseball, Basketball, Cross Country, Football, Golf, Indoor Track and Field, Outdoor Track and Field and Tennis.

Women’s competition is offered in the sports of Basketball, Bowling, Cross Country, Golf, Indoor Track and Field, Outdoor Track and Field, Soccer, Softball, Tennis and Volleyball.
