ATLANTA, Ga. – Keylon Mack’s game-winning RBI single in the eighth inning helped No. 1 seed (West) Grambling State avoid a potential upset as the team beat No. 4 (East) Jackson State 8-7 in the opening round of the Southwestern Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament at Russ Chandler Stadium.

In the seventh inning, he hit a 2-run homer to put Grambling State ahead 6-5.

This was a back-and-forth game complete with home runs, small ball execution and a bench warning for excessive celebrations for both teams by the umpire.

Grambling State led 2-0 in the third inning. However, this score didn’t last long.

Jackson State went up 3-2 in the fourth. Later, Marcus Atterberry’s RBI single drove home two for a 5-2 advantage.

The two-run spot by Grambling State in the eighth was solidified by Cameron Bufford’s RBI that sent Mack home.

Bufford went 3 for 5 with an RBI. Mack was 2 for 5 and had that signature home run. He also drove in three runs and scored twice.
With this victory, Grambling State moves forward to face arch-rival Southern on May 25 at 6 p.m. (EST).

Jackson State plays against Bethune-Cookman. The loser of this game will be eliminated from the tournament.
