Bethune-Cookman claims 2022 SWAC Women's Cross Country Title

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.- The Bethune-Cookman Wildcats claimed the 2022 Southwestern Athletic Conference Women’s Cross Country Championship title on Monday morning.

Bethune-Cookman placed five runners in the top twenty five of the event paced by Taisha Benjamin who finished the meet in eleventh place with a time of 20:37.6.

This marked the Wildcats first Southwestern Athletic Conference Women’s Cross Country championship title.

Alcorn State’s Stellah Kiptui finished the meet in first place with a time of 18:03.4. Runelda Jackson (ALCN), Aneisha Ingram (AAMU), Ruth Kibet (GSU), and Sharon Labich (GSU) finished the meet in 2-5 place respectively.

Bethune-Cookman (1st), Alcorn State (2nd), Grambling State (3rd), Alabama State (4th), and Jackson State (5th) round out the list of top five team finishes at the event.  

For her efforts Alcorn State’s Stellah Kiptui was tabbed the 2022 SWAC Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Year while Bethune-Cookman head coach Mike Hamer was named Coach of the Year.
