Week 3 Men’s Basketball Players of the Week
BIRMINGHAM, ALA. – Texas Southern redshirt senior center Trayvon Reed and Arkansas-Pine Bluff senior guard Martaveous McKnight were named the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Men’s Basketball Co-Players of the Week for week three of the season for their outstanding play for games played from Nov. 20-26.
Texas Southern
Trayvon Reed (R-SR, C, Mobile, Ala.)
Reed was a perfect 9-for-9 from the field and 5-for-5 from the free throw line and scored 23 points and pulled out seven rebounds with one block against #18 Oregon in an 89-84 win on Monday night. The win marked the second victory this season for the Tigers against a Power Five conference opponent after winning at Baylor back on Nov. 6.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff
Martaveous McKnight (SR, G, Walls, Miss.)
McKnight finished with 40 points and shot 13-of-27 from the field in a 115-107 triple-overtime victory over Cal. Baptist. He also went 13-of-18 from the charity stripe and added six boards and four assists.
In game two of the Las Vegas Invitational Holiday Classic, McKnight scored 20 points and made 6-of-15 buckets in a 75-66 victory over Little Rock at the Jack Stephens Center. He also made 6-of-9 free throws, dished out eight assists, grabbed three rebounds and produced two steals in the victory. He was named Tournament MVP.
